A steel roller gate will close off Saylor Road during flood events preventing water from flooding homes and businesses behind the Birdland Park Levee in Des Moines, Iowa
A new miter gate is maneuvered into position at Lock and Dam 21 by the Mississippi River Project Structural Maintenance Unit. The new gates were installed in November 2011 and are the first new miter gates in the Rock Island District at a 600-foot lock.
A contractor compacts roller-compacted concrete just days before water overtopped the spillway at Saylorville Lake in June 2010.
Rock Island District employees virtually inspect the design of the miter gates for the Upper Mississippi River in the Immersion Engineering Center at the Armament Research Development and Engineering Command on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, Ill.
