Illinois Waterway Visitor Center closed due to flooding

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (April 23) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Illinois Waterway Visitor Center is closed until further notice. Record flooding in the area has caused the visitor center to be inaccessible.

The visitor center is located on Dee Bennett Road across from the Starved Rock Lock and Dam near Ottawa and Utica, Ill. Through exhibits and other features, the visitor center provides an interpretation of the building and maintenance of the Illinois Waterway System. It is one of two visitor centers within the Rock Island District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with the other located on the Mississippi River in the Quad Cities at Locks and Dam 15.

No estimate is available on when the Illinois Waterway Visitor Center will reopen. For more information, call Kevin Ewbank, Supervisory Park Ranger, at (815) 228-9318.
