  • Lake Red Rock Drawdown Extended

    This fall, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, reduced Lake Red Rock’s reservoir pool level to elevation 732 mean sea level from 742 msl in preparation for flood recovery work. This drawdown was made to expose Tainter gate cable attachment hardware, which is underwater at normal reservoir levels, to enable replacement of the lifting cables. The ten-foot drawdown was originally scheduled to be completed in mid-December. However, due to a contract modification for cable replacement, the drawdown has been extended to February 12, 2011.
  • Corps Seeks Public Comment on Environmental Assessment for Hickory Ridge

    Knoxville, Iowa – The Rock Island District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has released the Environmental Assessment titled Lake Red Rock Master Plan Supplement for the Hickory Ridge Acquisition and Reclassification of Adjacent U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Managed Land, Marion County, Iowa, for public review and comment. The public comment period will end December 22, 2010.

  • Cedar Rapids flood risk study draft report available for public review and comment

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, in partnership with the City of Cedar Rapids, has completed the Cedar River, Cedar Rapids, Iowa Flood Risk Management Project Feasibility Report with Integrated Environmental Assessment, Public Review Draft. This document presents the evaluation of flood risk management alternatives for the City of Cedar Rapids. The report is available for public review and comment for a 30-day period beginning Aug. 31 and ending Sept. 30, 2010.
  • Saylorville Lake crest gates in need of repair; no impact to outflows

    Des Moines, Iowa -- (July 19, 2010) A thorough U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ inspection of Saylorville Lake’s inflatable pneumatic crest gates following the recent flood event has determined that the air bladders used to lift the gates are experiencing separation of the rubber ply layers resulting in the loss of an airtight seal.
