American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act of 2009
Mississippi Valley Division

Welcome to the
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers,
Mississippi Valley Division's American Recovery
and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 web site. The Act, also referred
to as the Economic Stimulus Bill, passed by the U.S. House and Senate and
signed by President Barack Obama on February 17, 2009, allows the Mississippi Valley Division (MVD) and
its six districts located in St. Paul, Minn.; Rock Island, Ill.; St. Louis;
Memphis; Vicksburg, Miss.; and New Orleans, to invest in
specifically authorized programs and projects within the 12-state Mississippi River
valley.
Under the ARRA, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
was appropriated $4.6 billion in the act for its civil works program, and
expects to receive between $2 billion and $2.5 billion for military programs
missions through the Department of Defense. Military programs has already
received requests from non-DoD agencies for assistance in executing $1
billion in work, and additional requests are anticipated.
The ARRA provides the Mississippi Valley Division and its six districts
nearly $930 million for
improving and strengthening the nation's water resources by
providing for the operation and maintenance of Corps projects;
project studies; and the construction of navigation, ecosystem
restoration, flood risk management, and other Corps of
Engineers’ projects and programs.
The Mississippi Valley Division, located in the heartland of
the United States, is responsible for the navigation support and flood
damage reduction on one of the largest inland waterway systems in the
country. Each District along the mighty Mississippi River, from its
headwaters at Lake Itaska in Minnesota, to its discharge into the Gulf of
Mexico contributes significantly to the economy, the environment and the
overall well-being of citizens of the valley. If you don't find
