USACE Rock Island District
Published Aug. 13, 2024
Expiration date: 9/14/2024

Project Location: The proposed site is located within Section 36, Township 17 North, Range 10 East, Bureau County, Illinois. See attached location maps. Latitude: 41.41327 Longitude: -89.28192.

Bank Objectives: The fundamental objective of compensatory mitigation is to offset environmental losses resulting from unavoidable impacts to waters of the United States authorized by Department of Army Permits. Other objectives include re-meandering stream, improving floodplain connection, improving water quality by reducing sediment loading and nutrients; reduce erosion; enhance and create additional wildlife habitat; restore native vegetation within riparian buffer; and sell stream mitigation credits for projects developed by other entities.

Project Description/Bank Establishment: The bank sponsor proposes to complete activities on 68.14 acres of privately owned property that would result in the establishment of stream mitigation credits. The goal of this project is to restore 5,802 linear feet of Brush Creek within the bank boundary to generate an initial estimate of 73,395.30 stream credits. The bank sponsor proposes to use many different in-stream methods to aid in restoring these portions of streams, including bank reshaping to improve floodplain connectivity, establishment of floodplain benches, re-meandering Brush Creek, and construction of rock riffles within the stream. Improvements to the riparian buffer include vegetation management to remove invasive species and promote native species diversity.

Service Area: The proposed primary bank service area will be the Illinois Central Service Area.
