Army Corps of Engineers reminds visitors to practice water safety

As millions of Americans plan visits to our nation’s lakes and rivers for the 2025 recreation season, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reminds visitors of the importance of practicing safe, sensible and thoughtful activities in, on and around open water.

Lake Red Rock Beaches Reopened

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, has reopened North Overlook and Whitebreast beaches at Lake Red Rock.

FREE boating safety courses to be offered at Mississippi River Project Office

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, is offering free boating safety education classes at the Mississippi River Project Office near Locks and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, during the month of April. Classes, which are open to anyone 11 or older, will be offered April 13, 20, and 27 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

FREE boating safety courses to be offered at Illinois Waterway Visitor Center

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, is offering free boating safety education classes at the Illinois Waterway Visitor Center located at 950 N. 27th Rd. in Ottawa, Illinois, April 20, May 18, June 15, July 20, and August 17. Each class runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is open to anyone 11 years of age or older. Completion of only one course is necessary for certification.

USACE warns of dangerous ice conditions at Coralville Lake

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, is warning the public to stay off the ice at Coralville Lake. Recent extreme cold has added ice to the surface of the water while decreasing inflows have caused unstable conditions.
