The shelter was intermittently closed to the public since Fall 2014 due to construction of the new Red Rock Hydropower Project. Reservations can be made up to a year in advance by visiting Recreation One Stop online at www.recreation.gov or by calling toll free at 1-877-444-6777. The shelter will remain available only on a first-come, first-served basis for the remainder of the 2020 season. The June statistics represent a 47 percent increase in drownings over the same time period last year. Currently, it is a fourteen mile paved path that winds along the north side of Lake Red Rock, below the Red Rock Dam, and into the City of Pella.
