  • Army Corps Details Aquatic Nuisance Species Study at Brandon Road Lock and Dam

    ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, has completed a draft Project Management Plan for accomplishing the Great Lakes and Mississippi River Interbasin Study (GLMRIS) Brandon Road Study. The Study will evaluate potential control options and technologies at the Illinois River Brandon Road Lock & Dam to prevent the upstream Interbasin transfer of aquatic nuisance species (ANS) while minimizing impacts to waterway uses and users and identify a recommended plan.
  • Final Free Boating Safety Classes

    Rock Island, IL - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Project announces they will be offering their last free boating safety education class. This class will be held on Saturday, May 2nd. The class will run from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and only one 8 hour class is required to complete your certification.
  • Saylorville Lake “No Motorized Vessel Zone”

    Johnston, Iowa - There is a new boating policy on Saylorville Lake for 2015. This policy is for a seasonal; “No Motorized Vessel Zone” north of the Mile Long Bridge, in the very shallow upper reaches of the reservoir, locally identified as the “mud flats” from April 1st to August 31st during periods of near normal conservation pools (below 840’ NGVD).

    Lake Red Rock now has a Facebook page! Please check it out and "like" the lake at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/lakeredrock The Facebook page was just created on April 3rd and is still a work in progress, but the Corps of Engineers plans to post information on it frequently to help you stay informed about lake area activities.   • Saylorville Lake Earth Day Celebration

    Johnston, Iowa - Saturday, April 18, 2015 11am – 3pm Saylorville Lake Visitor Center FREE Celebrate the 45th Anniversary of Earth Day with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Saylorville Lake. Help clean up the environment and preserve the natural beauty at Saylorville Lake. Volunteers can meet a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center where they will provide gloves, trash bags and get you started on your project.
  • Lane Closure and Width Restrictions to Begin on F28 (Mehaffey Bridge Rd.) at Iowa River/Coralville Reservoir Bridge

    Johnson County, Iowa – Traffic will be restricted to a single lane with stoplight control at the Mehaffey Bridge over the Iowa River/Coralville Reservoir in unincorporated Johnson County beginning Monday, March 30, 2015. A maximum vehicle width restriction of 9’-6" will be in place at the bridge location during this phase of the construction.
  • Illinois Waterway Visitor offering a free boating safety course

    Ottawa, IL - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Illinois Waterway Visitor will be offering a free Illinois DNR boating safety course. The class will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 11. This 8-hour class is required to receive your state of Illinois Safe Boating certification. The class will be held at Illinois Waterway Visitor Center at the Starved Rock Lock and Dam along Dee Bennett Road between Ottawa and Utica.

This class will be held on March 28th. The class will run from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and only one 8 hour class is required to complete your certification.
  • Intermittent road restrictions continue as hydro project progresses

    The mild weather this week has allowed crews at the Red Rock Dam to continue working day and night to prepare the site for construction of a powerhouse and intake structure that will comprise the Red Rock Hydroelectric Project (RRHP). Short-term road closures, directed by the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, will occur in the overnight hours every three to four days as crews move large rebar cages from the North Tailwater staging area to the construction area on the upstream side of the Dam. In addition, Highway T-15 will be restricted to one lane every three to four days to facilitate staging of the concrete trucks to ensure worker and public safety as the wall element sections are poured.
