  • Big Creek Lake Gate Replacement Project

    Johnston, Iowa - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced that Jenson Construction Company plans to begin mobilizing construction equipment & material at the Big Creek Diversion Dam in the next 2-3 weeks. During various stages of mobilization and construction, access into Big Creek State Park from Broadway (Old Hwy 415) and across the dam will be limited to one lane with traffic controls. The Neal Smith Trail will be open, but will merge with the one lane traffic across the dam.
  • Coralville Reservoir Begins Drawdown

    Iowa City, IA - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District will begin lowering Coralville Reservoir starting on March 10. This drawdown of four feet is done in accordance with the operation plan to increase storage capacity in the reservoir. The target elevation of 679 msl should be attained by March 20.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Louis District will recognize local, state and federal partners on an innovative habitat rehabilitation and enhancement project in Illinois that has earned national recognition.
  • Downstream work prepares for RRHP powerhouse construction

    Construction continues at the Red Rock Dam where Missouri River Energy Services (MRES) will construct a new hydroelectric power plant. Much of the construction work being done is in preparation for construction of the powerhouse, which is expected to begin in summer 2015. On the downstream side of the Red Rock Dam, the construction of the cofferdam, which is located between the Des Moines River and the power plant site, is well underway. The construction of Cells #1 and #2 are largely complete, Cell #3 is being filled with sand, and the walls of Cell #4 are being installed.
  • FREE Boating Safety Classes

    Rock Island, IL - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Project announces they will be offering five different opportunities to attend a free boating safety education class. The classes will be held on the following dates: March 14th, March 28th, April 11th, April 25th, and May 2nd. Each class will run from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and only one 8 hour class is required to complete your certification.
  • Public Input Sought on Mississippi River Master Plan

    Rock Island, Ill. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, is proposing to revise its Mississippi River Master Plan and is seeking public input. The plan guides public use and management of approximately 55,000 acres of federal lands and 314 Mississippi River miles from near Guttenberg, Iowa, to Saverton, Missouri, for environmental stewardship and recreational purposes.
  • Corps Hosts Meeting to Discuss Ongoing Repairs of Marseilles Dam

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, will host a public meeting February 24 at the Marseilles Fire station to discuss ongoing repairs to the Marseilles Dam.
  • Coralville Lake Seeks Park Attendant & Custodian Contractors

    IOWA CITY, Iowa – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking individuals interested in Park Attendant and Custodian positions at Coralville Lake. These are contracted positions with work being performed from April through October for the 2015 and 2016 recreation seasons. There are four contracts available: one Park Attendant/Custodian Contract for the Sandy Beach Campground and Recreation Area, two Custodian Contracts at the Dam Complex Recreation Areas and one Park Attendant Contract at Sugar Bottom Campground.

    IOWA CITY – Each year on Memorial Day, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Coralville Lake and the Johnson County Veterans organizations honor local military veterans who have served their country. The public is invited to nominate individuals who meet the criteria in order that they may be recognized for outstanding service in the U.S. Armed Services.
  • Coralville Lake Bald Eagle Watch & Expo

    IOWA CITY, IOWA –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Coralville Lake will be co-hosting a Bald Eagle Watch and Expo on Saturday, February 7, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at North Central Junior High, 180 E. Forevergreen Road, North Liberty, Iowa. The other co-hosts are the Iowa City Bird Club and the Iowa Wildlife Federation.
