  • Visitor Observation Area to Temporarily Close at Marseilles Lock

    Due to major rehabilitation work at Marseilles Lock on the Illinois Waterway, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is temporarily closing the visitor observation area from June 1 to Aug. 31.
  • Corps of Engineers to Increase Coralville Lake Outflows

    IOWA CITY, Iowa – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rock Island District is temporarily increasing outflows at Coralville Lake from 6,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) to 10,000 cfs to expedite evacuation of flood waters from the reservoir. Seasonal constraints, typically used to reduce flood crests downstream, have also been raised from 14 to 19 feet at Lone Tree, Iowa, and from 21 to 25 feet at Wapello, Iowa, to assist in maintaining flood storage capacity within the reservoir.
  • Chief of Engineers approves plan for preventing Asian carp transfer into Great Lakes

    ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – A plan to prevent the spread of Asian carp into the Great lakes has been approved by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers top general. Commanding general of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Lt. Gen. Todd Semonite, approved the recommended plan today by signing the Chief’s Report for The Great Lakes Mississippi River Interbasin Study – Brandon Road Final Integrated Feasibility Study and Environmental Impact Statement. The Chief’s Report will be sent to Congress for authorization consideration.
  • Opening Delayed at Auxiliary Lock 14

    PLEASANT VALLEY, Iowa – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mississippi River Project announces the auxiliary lock at Locks and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, will not be opening Memorial Day weekend as scheduled due to Spring flooding.
  • Partial Closures to Begin June 1 at Starved Rock and Marseilles Locks

    ROCK ISLAND, Illinois. – Starting June 1, Starved Rock and Marseilles locks on the Illinois Waterway will be closed to commercial and recreational traffic from 6 a.m.to 6 p.m. to prepare for upcoming major maintenance. The 12-hour closures will take place daily from June 1 to July 3 and from July 8 to Aug. 16. Both locks will be open for normal, 24-hour operation July 3-7 to clear any backlog of traffic and accommodate for increased recreational boating during the Independence Day holiday.
  • Final Free Boating Safety Class

    Rock Island, IL - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Project announces that the final boating safety education class they will be offering before the summer season will be held on May 18th. The class will be held at the Mississippi River Project Office at Locks and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Illinois Waterway Visitor Center Closes Due to High Water

    OTTAWA, Illinois. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, has temporarily closed the Illinois Waterway Visitor Center located at Starved Rock Lock and Dam in Ottawa, Illinois, due to rising river levels.
