ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Project will be temporarily closing Smith's Island Recreation Area at Lock and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, for environmental restoration work beginning on March 12. The closure is expected to last for approximately two weeks. During the closure, workers will be clearing invasive species and applying herbicide in vegetated areas. When active restoration work is taking place, no access will be granted to the island. When no active work is being done, access will remain unrestricted and visitors are permitted to use the space. Everyone is encouraged to stay on designated trails when using the space during this period. For more information, please call 309-794-4528.
