OTTAWA, Illinois -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, announces the Illinois Waterway Visitor Center at Starved Rock Lock and Dam in Ottawa, Illinois, will host “Submarines Down the River” on January 4 at 1 p.m.
Local historian Joe Tokarz will present a lecture exploring the significant role the Illinois River played in shaping the course of World War II. The presentation will highlight the history of submarines manufactured in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and their journey down the Illinois River for use in the conflict.
