MUSCATINE, Iowa - The Rock Island District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Muscatine invite the public to help celebrate the completion of the Mad Creek Flood Risk Management Project with a ribbon cutting ceremony, December 6 at noon. The ceremony is being held just upstream of the 2nd Street Bridge in the parking lot of HON Industries in Muscatine.

The approximately $9 million contract was completed in two phases. Phase One of the construction contract was awarded to Civil Construction Group and was completed in October of 2010. Phase Two of the construction contract was awarded to General Construction Inc. and was completed in November.

The project raised the height of a levee and flood wall. Also, two new closure structures were built. The project provides an increased level of flood risk reduction for significant portions of downtown Muscatine as well as commercial and industrial areas.
