When severe weather conditions exist or are predicted, Rock Island District Headquarters' employees should communicate with their supervisor to coordinate using leave or working in a telework status. Notifications via the ALERT! system will be used to communicate executive-level directives pertaining to Rock Island District's operating status. All employees should ensure they have personal contact information updated in the ALERT! system using the following process: ALERT! Instructions (Note: This process must be done from your government computer.)
To access the District's operating status by phone, dial: 1-800-799-8302 or 309-794-4200, press 7 (This extension is not listed as an option to the public during the recording.)
Note: Announcements pertaining to the Rock Island Arsenal DO NOT apply to USACE Rock Island District.
When severe weather occurs, each supervisor may use the discretion provided by 5 CPR 630.206 to grant up to one hour of excused absence to employees who are unable to report to work on time. A liberal leave policy will be authorized but requires employees to request leave from the appropriate supervisor. Decisions to grant additional excused absence, or group dismissal, will be made by chain of command. If there is any uncertainty whether Rock Island District Headquarters is open for business employees should contact their chain of command.
At locations other than the District Headquarters, site supervisors, in coordination with their chain of command, will decide when and to what extent excused absence or group dismissal is warranted and will notify the employees by appropriate local means.
Employee safety must remain a priority at all times and every individual is ultimately responsible for taking action to manage and to avoid excessive risk.
Non Weather-Related Closure
When an unforeseen emergency arises (e.g., fire, water or electrical outage, pipe burst, etc.), the chain of command will determine when and to what extent excused absence or group dismissal is warranted.
