  • Corps closes flood Emergency Operations Centers

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (June 10) – Following the most recent spring flooding, May 28 through June 7, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, provided flood-fight supplies and on-the-ground technical assistance to areas along the Upper Mississippi and Illinois rivers and their tributaries.

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (May 31) – In response to National Weather Service forecasts predicting the potential for major flooding in areas along the Upper Mississippi and Illinois rivers and their tributaries, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, activated its Emergency Operations Center on Tuesday, May 28. The District has also opened its remote Emergency Operations Center in the Quincy, Ill., area May 30, to more quickly address flood response needs.

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – (May 31) The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, will be closing four additional locks on the Mississippi River due to high river levels. The closures are necessary as the Mississippi River overtops lock gates making the locks inoperable.

  • Army Corps of Engineers making repairs at Marseilles earthen dike

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (May 29) – As part of ongoing repairs at the Marseilles Lock and Dam project, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, is placing HESCO barriers on the earthen dike located on the right descending bank of the Illinois River in Marseilles, Ill.
  • Corps increases Coralville Reservoir outflows due to heavy rainfall

    IOWA CITY, IA – (May 29) Recent heavy rainfall over portions of north central Iowa has increased runoff into Coralville Reservoir. To maintain water storage and flood risk management capability, reservoir outflows were increased to 10,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) this morning, May 29.

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (May 16) – Following the heavy rains in April the Corps of Engineers began storing flood waters at its three reservoirs (Coralville, Red Rock and Saylorville) to reduce the amount of flooding downstream.
