  • Corps awards $12 million contract to build islands near Lansing, Iowa

    ST. PAUL, MINN. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, recently awarded a nearly $12 million contract to Newt Marine Services of Dubuque, Iowa, to restore habitat within the Mississippi River Pool 9.
  • Corps of Engineers to close T.J. O’Brien Lock for critical maintenance

    ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, announces navigation closures at the T.J. O’Brien Lock beginning November 3 in order to dewater the gate bays and perform critical maintenance to the infrastructure. Two closures are scheduled, each lasting 47 days. The first closure, which begins Nov. 3, will run through Dec. 19, 2014. The lock will then reopen until the second closure scheduled for Jan. 19 through March 6, 2015.
  • Corps of Engineers Awards Contract for Permanent Repairs at Marseilles Dam

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, awarded a construction contract to perform permanent repairs to the Marseilles Dam in Marseilles, Ill. The contract, which totals about $18 million, was awarded to Massman Construction Company of Kansas City, Missouri. Onsite work is expected to begin in 2015. The repair work must be carefully staged to reduce flooding risk and is expected to complete in early 2017.
  • North Overlook Picnic Area to Close

    The North Overlook Picnic Area is closed to public use effective Monday, September 22, 2014 until further notice. This closure also closes the trailhead access to the Volksweg Trail at this location, and the North Overlook Hiking Trail. The assembly of a large crane, future hydromill assembly and staging of equipment has necessitated the closure for construction on the Red Rock Hydropower Project.
