Recreation Opportunities

CAMPING: The Dam Complex, Sandy Beach and Sugar Bottom Campgrounds offer more than 500 camping sites at Coralville Lake. To make reservations call toll free at 1-877-444-6777 or visit www.recreation.gov. For questions about the campgrounds and campsites please call (319) 338-3543 ext. 6300 or send an email to coralville.lake@usace.army.mil

PICNICKING: Picnic shelters are available at various locations around Coralville Lake. The following shelters are available for advanced reservations:  East Overlook Round #3, East Overlook Square #4, Sugar Bottom Day Use #39, Tailwater West #9, Turkey Creek #7 (TEMPORARILY CLOSED) . The West Overlook Day Use #17 is not reservable and is only available on a first come first serve basis.  For advanced shelter reservations, please go to www.recreation.gov and search for the name of the shelter to make your reservation.

BOATING: Coralville Lake has more than 5,000 acres of water for pleasure boating, water skiing and fishing. Before you launch, be sure to check out current lake levels at www.rivergages.com.

BEACHES: There are two designated public swimming beaches at Sugar Bottom Day Use and West Overlook Day Use. There are NO lifeguards provided and all swimming is at your own risk.  NO alcohol is allowed on any Coralville Lake swimming beaches. There is a beach at the Sugar Bottom Campground for registered campers.

ANNUAL DAY USE PASS: During non-recreation season (third Sunday in October – April 30) passes are only available for purchase (DEBIT/CREDIT ONLY) at the Coralville Lake office by appointment only. To make an appointment call: 319-338-3543 ext. 6300 or email: Coralville.lake@usace.army.mil. Day Use fees will be collected during the recreation season from April to October. The daily fee to use beaches and boat ramps is $5.00/vehicle. An Annual Pass may be purchased for $40. BIRDING: Coralville Lake offers a variety of habitats and is a popular birding location. To learn more about Iowa birds and birding go to www.iowabirds.org.

DISC GOLF:  A nine-hole disc golf course is located at Turkey Creek near the Coralville Dam and another 18 hole course is located at Sugar Bottom Day Use area north of North Liberty, Iowa.

TRAILS: There are approximately 20 miles of trail located around Coralville Lake.  The trails range from barrier free, hard surfaces to natural surfaces and mountain bike trails.
