On Sept. 7, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, will begin reducing outflow from the Lake Red Rock Dam in preparation for a dive inspection of the structure.
The dive inspection is part of the Lake Red Rock 2008 flood recovery work which includes Tainter gate bulkhead installation. Accurate measurements are needed for manufacturing components of the Tainter gate bulkhead system, which will be installed later this year. The inspection will confirm dimensions of underwater dam features.
Flow will be reduced from 25,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) to 20,000 cfs, beginning the afternoon of Tuesday, Sept. 7.
Further reductions will be made the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 8, when flows will be reduced to 14,000 cfs, and continue to be reduced to 8,000 cfs later that afternoon.
Thursday morning, Sept. 9, flows will again be reduced to the final 2,500 cfs and held there for the inspection.
After completing the inspection, Lake Red Rock outflow will be increased to 10,000 cfs on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 9; then to 18,000 cfs on Friday morning, Sept. 10; and finally to 23,000 cfs on Friday afternoon.
