Veterans Trail at Coralville Lake to close for major rehabilitation

Published Oct. 25, 2017

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, is closing the Veterans Trail at Coralville Lake, Iowa, beginning Nov. 12 to perform major rehabilitation. Work on the trail is expected to last into late spring or early summer. The trail is anticipated to reopen on or before Memorial Day 2018.

The trail’s wooden boardwalk which was installed in 1988 has seen significant use over the years and is becoming more difficult to maintain, therefore a full replacement is necessary. As part of the rehabilitation, the current boardwalk will be removed, the path will be regraded, and replaced with a more sustainable hard surface trail. All memorial monuments will be removed and reinstalled upon completion of the project.
