Access Road Across Coralville Dam to Close

Published June 3, 2013

IOWA CITY – (June 2) The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Coralville Lake will be completely closing the roadway that goes across the Coralville Dam beginning June 3, 2013 at 10:00 P.M.

Due to the large number of vehicles and the increase pedestrian traffic it has become necessary to close all access to the area in order to allow Corps of Engineers employees to perform their duties relating to the safety of the dam and its structures. The road will remain closed until it is safe for vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The road will be barricaded on the east and west sides of the Coralville Dam. No vehicle or pedestrian traffic will be permitted past the barricades due to safety and security concerns.

For those who use the road on daily basis, they will need to make alternate plans.

The following recreation areas in the Coralville Dam area have been closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic: Tailwater East, Tailwater West, Cottonwood and East Overlook. Camping at Tailwater East, Tailwater West, Cottonwood and some of the lower portions of West Overlook Campground has been temporarily closed.

Viewing areas are available at the Visitor Center on the east side of the dam. Be sure to use Prairie Du Chien Road NE to access this area. Viewing on the west side of the dam is available from the parking lot of the West Overlook Dump Station. This is accessed from Dubuque Street and then takes West Overlook Road.

Viewing is also available on our website at www.coralvillelake.org then select “Coralville Web Cam”. Or check our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/coralvillelake for updates.
