Rock Island District Hosts Public Open House to Celebrate 150 Year Anniversary

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, as part of its 150th Anniversary celebration, will host a public open house aboard the Motor Vessel Mississippi August 2 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. while the vessel is docked at River Heritage Park in downtown Davenport, Iowa.

The open house is free to the public and will include tours of the vessel as well as displays depicting the 150 year history of the Rock Island District.

The MV Mississippi is the largest towboat on the Mississippi River. It is owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It spends most of the year as a working towboat but it is also used to transport the Presidentially-appointed Mississippi River Commission when the commission conducts inspection of Corps project along the River. The MRC will conduct an inspection tour on portions of the Upper Mississippi River the first two weeks of August to include stops in the Quad Cities August 1 and 2.
