  • Rising Mississippi River Requires Extra Caution and Water Safety

    Rock Island, Ill. -- (July 29, 2011) The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Project reminds everyone to be careful around the rising waters of the Mississippi River. With large rainfall amounts to the north, the Mississippi River is rising quickly and many people who recreate on the River may not be prepared for high water this time of year. In the Quad City area, the river is forecasted to reach flood stage Friday evening and remain over flood stage throughout the weekend. Areas below the Quad Cities will also see River levels rise as the crest moves downriver over the next several days.

  • Lake Red Rock pool continues to rise as inflows increase

    ROCK ISLAND, ILL. – Recent heavy rainfall and increased inflow into Lake Red Rock from its 12,323-square-mile watershed on the Des Moines River is causing the pool level to rise. Pending additional heavy rainfall, the pool is expected to peak at approximately 761.6 feet on June 3, and then begin to fall.

    ROCK ISLAND, ILL. – With the possibility of a flood of record on the Lower Mississippi River, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is implementing a region-wide plan to reduce outflows from reservoirs located on tributaries to the Mississippi River. All Corps of Engineers reservoirs with the ability to impact Lower Mississippi River flood stages are evaluating water releases to minimize impacts to communities along the River.
