UMRR Program - Steamboat Island HREP - Pool 14

The Steamboat Island Project is located in the middle section of Pool 14 along the right descending bank of the Upper Mississippi River (UMR), between the town of Princeton and the Wapsipinicon River. The Project lands, part of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge (NWR), are federally-owned.

UMRR Program - IL, IA, MO, MN, WI - Upper Mississippi River Restoration

The UMRR Program was authorized by the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 1986 and continuously authorized by WRDA 99.The program consists of two primary elements: habitat rehabilitation projects, and systemic monitoring and research. Some of the key provisions of the Program are: 1) it is a continuing authority; 2) the total authorized annual funding amount is $33,170,000; and 3) the requirement for a Report to Congress every six years to evaluate the Program and document progress and its accomplishments, identify systemic habitat needs, and recommend adjustments as needed.

UMRR Program - IL, IA, MO, MN, WI - Pool 12 Overwintering Habitat Rehabilitation & Enhancement Project

The Pool 12 Overwintering project area is located along the left descending bank of the Upper Mississippi River approximately 10 miles south of Dubuque, Iowa, in Jo Daviess County, Illinois. The project lies generally between the Mississippi River's main channel and the railroad tracks that parallel the river's east bank. The project lands are Federally owned by the Corps of Engineers and are managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as part of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge, Savanna Division
