  • Roadway across Saylorville Lake Dam closed due to high winds

    Due to high winds, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, has closed the roadway that crosses over the Saylorville Lake dam. Boat ramps and other winter recreation areas have also closed due to forecasted weather conditions. Areas will reopen when conditions are deemed safe.   • Closure of riverfront walkway at Locks and Dam 14 extended

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, has extended the closure of the public walkway located downstream of Locks and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa. Due to ongoing construction, it will remain closed through late February 2022. The extension is the result of material shortages which have delayed construction.
  • Lock and Dam 21 Closed to Visitors

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, is restricting visitor access to Lock and Dam 21 as it has closed due to road construction.
  • Dredging project to cause temporary river closure near Keithsburg, Illinois

    Beginning today, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, will temporarily close the main channel of the Mississippi River at river mile 425.7 in Pool 18 near Keithsburg, Illinois, to move dredged material from Willow Bar Island to the Iowa shore. The closure is anticipated to last three weeks and will impact navigation.
  • Mississippi River Visitor Center open to public for viewing of large-scale paddle event, Floatzilla

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, invites the public to the Mississippi River Visitor Center at Locks and Dam 15 in Rock Island, Illinois, to view hundreds of paddlers locking through during the annual Floatzilla paddle event, August 21. The Visitor Center will open at 9 a.m. and paddlers will be passing though the locks throughout the morning and early afternoon hours. Facemasks are required to be worn while inside the facility.
  • CANCELED: Corps of Engineers to offer two opportunities to tour largest diesel towboat in the U.S.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, is hosting two public open house events this week aboard the Motor Vessel Mississippi. The first will be held Tuesday, Aug. 10 from 1-5 p.m. at River Heritage Park in Davenport, Iowa. The second will be held Wednesday, Aug. 11 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. along the Mississippi Riverwalk at the Port of Dubuque, in Dubuque, Iowa, next the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, is hosting an open house aboard the Motor Vessel Mississippi August 10 from 1-5 p.m. at River Heritage Park in downtown Davenport, Iowa.
  • Draft Mississippi River Master Plan released for public review

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, has released for public review, the Mississippi River Project Master Plan with Integrated Environmental Assessment for Pools 11-22 of the Upper Mississippi River. The public is invited to submit comments regarding the alternative analysis and preferred alternative for this project through Aug. 20.
  • Public Input Sought on Pool 12 Forestry Habitat Restoration Project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and its Upper Mississippi River Restoration Program partners are in the early stages of planning for a habitat rehabilitation project in Pool 12 of the Mississippi River and are seeking public input through Aug. 14.
  • Neal Smith Trail fully reopened at Saylorville Lake

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, has reopened portions of the Neal Smith Trail on the east side of Saylorville Lake which had been closed due to ongoing repairs. Newly reopened areas include NW Big Creek Drive to the access point across from E. Southside Drive in Polk City, and from Oak Grove Recreation Area to Red Feather Prairie.
