Howell Station Recreation Area is located below the Red Rock Dam on the north side of the Des Moines River. Howell Station is the largest recreation area at the lake managed by the Corps, providing 135 reservable campsites. This area has access to the Volksweg and other hiking trails, boat ramp, fish cleaning station, playgrounds and shower facilities. All sites are reservable excluding sites #1A, #20, #22, #38, #48, #50, #58, #84, #90A, #90B, #125A, and #137.
Sites #39, #46, #55, #83, #88, #130 and #140 are designed to accommodate users with disabilities.
