Proposed Project Information: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District (District), proposes to construct a modified diaphragm sheet pile wall along the Shop Building 306 extending through the Marina Way. The project would replace the existing anchored sheet pile wall that is structurally failing. The Illinois Waterway Project Office is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The District determined that the project would result in an Adverse Effect to Historic Properties. The District will continue to coordinate with the Iowa State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) to mitigate such effects. The current construction schedule is contingent on receipt of funding; however, work could begin as early as Fall 2025.
Location: The proposed project is located at the Illinois Waterway Project Office, 257 Grant St., Peoria IL 61603. See Figure 1 below.
National Historic Preservation Act Coordination: The proposed sheet pile wall constitutes a Federal undertaking subject to compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, as amended, which requires Federal agencies to account for the effects of their actions on historic properties. In compliance with regulations implementing Section 106, this notice provides information on a proposed action’s effects on historic properties and offers the public an opportunity to comment. Interested parties are requested to submit comments by April 25, 2025. This notice is supplemental to any consultation with Tribal Nations or SHPO under Section 106 of the NHPA.
Questions or comments specific to this Section 106 review can be directed to the Regional Planning Environment Division North at RPEDNCulturalSection@usace.army.mil.
