    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The US Army Corps of Engineers - Rock Island District and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources awarded a contract for the Peoria Riverfront Development, Illinois (Ecosystem Restoration) Upper Mid-sized Island Critical Restoration Project, Stage II.

  • Army Corps Alters Saylorville Lake Outflows in Anticipation of Spring Flooding

    JOHNSTON, Iowa – The Corps of Engineers is implementing additional measures in an effort to keep water from flowing over Saylorville Lake's spillway. Recent rains and snowmelt due to higher-than-expected temperatures in the Des Moines River basin have increased inflows into the Lake resulting in the projected Lake elevation exceeding previous estimates.

  • Army Corps Alters Saylorville Lake Operations in Anticipation of Spring Flooding

    JOHNSTON, Iowa – In preparation for the National Weather Service’s high probability forecast for spring 2010 flooding due to snowmelt and rainfall runoff, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has approved a temporary, minor deviation from the authorized Saylorville Lake Regulation Plan.

  • Corps Contractor to Begin Taking Soil Borings

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – A contractor for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Terracon, will be performing borings along the east bank of the Cedar River. The work will begin in March 2010 and will be completed by the end of the month. Terracon will drill approximately 43 holes to determine what the subsurface soil conditions are like.

  • Corps to host scoping meeting for Lake Red Rock, Hickory Ridge Project

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- Come be a part of creating a new attraction at Lake Red Rock. On March 10, 2010, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, and the Lake Red Rock Association will host a public scoping meeting for the Hickory Ridge Project. The meeting will be held at the Lake Red Rock Project office, 1105 Highway T-15, Knoxville, Iowa, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

  • Corps Seeks Public Comment on Rice Lake Habitat Rehabilitation and Enhancement Project

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Rock Island District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has released the Draft Definite Project Report for the Rice Lake, Ill., Habitat Rehabilitation and Enhancement Project for public review and comment. The 30-day public comment period begins January 28.

  • Corps Seeks Agricultural Lease Applications at Lake Red Rock, Red Rock Dam Project

    Rock Island, Illinois — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking applications for seven leases for agricultural purposes, with a total of 458 acres. The leases are for a five-year term. Applications will be evaluated based upon the highest annual rental proposed.

  • Cedar Rapids Flood Risk Management Feasibility Study Continues

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rock Island District, in partnership with the City of Cedar Rapids, continues to review and evaluate flood risk management alternatives for the City. The Corps has completed a preliminary analysis for an alternative that mirrors the City of Cedar Rapids’ preferred plan. This alternative includes levees and floodwalls on both sides of the Cedar River built to June 2008 record flood levels.
