Corps Contractor to Begin Taking Soil Borings

Published Feb. 25, 2010

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – A contractor for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Terracon, will be performing borings along the east bank of the Cedar River. The work will begin in March 2010 and will be completed by the end of the month. Terracon will drill approximately 43 holes to determine what the subsurface soil conditions are like.

The information collected will be used to design flood reduction structures should a flood risk management alternative meeting Corps selection criteria be identified. The work will cause minimal disruption to traffic in the work area.  Once a boring is completed the area will be backfilled. Borings in paved areas will be appropriately patched.  All contractor vehicles will be appropriately marked and all employees will carry proper identification.
