Coralville Lake Shoreline Management Plan Revision Open House - Comment Period Runs Through March 18, 2016

Iowa City, IA. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, has been revising the Coralville Lake Lakeshore Management Plan which is now referred to as the Coralville Lake Shoreline Management Plan. The draft plan is now available for public review and comment. We will be hosting an open house on Thursday, February 18, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Coralville Lake Office located at 2850 Prairie Du Chien Road NE, Iowa City, Iowa. The purpose of the open house is to informally meet with individuals and groups to discuss the proposed Coralville Lake Shoreline Management Plan revisions.

Coralville Lake Bald Eagle Watch & Expo

Iowa City Iowa - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Coralville Lake will be co-hosting a Bald Eagle Watch and Expo on Saturday, February 6, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at North Central Junior High, 180 E. Forevergreen Road, North Liberty, Iowa. The watch site is at Coralville Lake below the dam in Tailwater West. Co-hosts are the Iowa City Bird Club and Iowa Audubon. This event is free to the public and will be held at the two different locations simultaneously.

Sugar Bottom Mountain Biking Trails Closure

Iowa City, IA – Public lands at Coralville Lake are open for hunting in designated areas. During shotgun and muzzle loader hunting seasons, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers encourages visitors to use appropriate safety measures when visiting these areas. This may include wearing blaze orange vests and/or clothing. Once again, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is closing Coralville Lake’s Sugar Bottom Bike Trails in Solon, Iowa from December 1, 2015 through January 10, 2016 to accommodate shotgun and muzzle loader hunting seasons. Public Notice: Antidegradation Alternatives Analysis for Coralville Lake

Iowa City, IA – Notice is hereby given that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, Coralville Lake has completed a draft antidegradation alternatives analysis for discharge of treated wastewater to the Iowa River. The action being considered is the addition of a discharge pipe to the existing sewage lagoon. The Iowa River is protected for Class A1 primary contact recreational, B(WW-1) warm water, HH human health and C drinking water supply beneficial uses.

Rock Island District waives fees on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 26

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Rock Island District announces it will waive day use fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches at its recreation areas in recognition of National Public Lands Day on Sept. 26.

Swimming Not Recommended at Coralville Beaches

Due to a high level of bacteria found in the water at Coralville Lake, swimming is NOT recommended at Sandy Beach or either of the Sugar Bottom beaches. Levels at West Overlook were at safe levels.

Coralville Lake Adopt-A-Trail Program

The Coralville Lake Adopt-A-Trail Program welcomes your interest! School and youth groups, scout troops, church, community and service organizations, businesses, families, individuals or groups of individuals can adopt a trail. Activities of the Coralville Lake Adopt-A-Trail Program may include, partnering with Natural Resource Specialists and Park Ranger, litter removal, planting and/or maintenance trees, shrubs, wildflowers and native grasse, beautification project, trail maintenance, reporting trail issues and/or assisting with special events. Corps Hosts Open House for Coralville Lake Master Plan Revision

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, is revising the Coralville Lake Master Plan and will be hosting a public scoping open house on Wednesday, July 8, from 2 – 7 p.m. at the South Slope Community Center located at 980 North Front Street, North Liberty, Iowa. The purpose of the open house is to informally meet with individuals and groups to discuss the Coralville Lake Master Plan revision. This will provide the public an opportunity to learn about the status of natural resource and recreation activities, provide comments on land management issues and resource objectives, and give feedback on their interests as it relates to Coralville Lake.

Veteran's Trail Dedication Ceremony

IOWA CITY – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, will be honoring local military veterans on Memorial Day, May 25, 2015, at 1:30 PM at Coralville Lake. The ceremony will be conducted at the East Overlook Picnic Area located on the east side of the Coralville Dam. The public is invited to help recognize and honor these Johnson County Veterans.
