  • Corps activates Emergency Operations Center to provide flood-fight support

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (June 26) – In response to the recent heavy rains and the National Weather Service forecasts predicting the potential for major flooding in areas along the Upper Mississippi River and tributaries, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, activated its Emergency Operations Center today for the third time since April.

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – (June 26) The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, is expecting to close six locks on the Mississippi River due to rising river levels. The closures are necessary as the Mississippi River overtops lock gates making the locks inoperable.

    Muscatine, IA - The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Project announces the continued full closure of Blanchard Island, Kilpeck Landing, and Ferry Landing Recreation Areas. Partial closures of Shady Creek, Andalusia Slough, and Clark’s Ferry are also taking effect.

  • Locks and Dam # 15 Tours Cancelled

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Project announces that tours of Locks and Dam #15 will be cancelled on June 30th. The Mississippi River Visitor Center will still remain open during this time.
  • AmeriCorps NCCC Hosts Community Day at Clark’s Ferry

    Montpelier, Iowa – On Sunday, June 23, AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) members are hosting a community service day to stain facilities and remove invasive plant species. The community service day is being held at Clark’s Ferry Recreation Area from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Saylorville and Red Rock reservoirs avert more than $11 million in flood damages

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – (June 19) During the recent heavy rainfall events in the Des Moines River basin, Saylorville Lake’s and Lake Red Rock’s outflows were regulated to help reduce river levels and minimize flooding from Des Moines, Iowa, to Hannibal, Mo., on the Mississippi River. The operation of the Lakes prevented more than $11 million in additional flood damages to downstream areas.
  • Salvage operations complete at Marseilles Dam (Unified Command News Release)

    MARSEILLES, Ill. — (June 18) The Marseilles Barge Incident Unified Command announces Tuesday that salvage operators safely removed the last partially submerged barge at the Marseilles Dam, which completes the salvage operations.
