Lock and Dam 25 is located in Calhoun County, Illinois, and Lincoln County, Missouri, at mile 241.4 on the Upper Mississippi River near Winfield, Missouri. The new 1,200-foot lock project at Lock and Dam 25 is one of seven 1,200-foot lock chambers authorized by the Navigation and Ecosystem Sustainability Program and the first to be funded for construction. Lock 25 received $732M to fund design and construction of the project.
The project scope includes a new 1,200-foot lock chamber adjacent to the existing 600’ chamber and upstream/downstream approach walls. When complete, the new lock will improve the efficiency and reliability along with adding redundancy at Lock 25. Reference image below for general project layout. The existing 600-foot lock chamber would remain in place and serve as an auxiliary lock primarily for recreational traffic. The project also includes associated channel work, relocations and site-specific environmental mitigation.
