  • USACE seeking public input on proposed updates to Public Law 84-99

    The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers is updating part of the Federal Regulation outlining how USACE implements its emergency authority provided in Public Law 84-99 for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. The regulation was last revised in 2003. Since that time, there have been amendments to Public Law 84-99 through multiple Water Resource Development Acts passed by Congress. Additionally, USACE programs have evolved to implement lessons learned from events over the last 20 years. USACE will update the federal regulation to reflect these changes.
  • Portions of Neal Smith Trail to temporarily close for repairs at Saylorville Lake

    Beginning Tuesday, June 8, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, will temporarily close portions of the Neal Smith Trail on the east side of Saylorville Lake to replace broken asphalt with concrete and install culverts. Areas impacted by the closures include NW Big Creek Drive to the access point across from E. Southside Drive in Polk City, and from Oak Grove Recreation Area to Red Feather Prairie.
  • Mississippi River Visitor Center at Locks and Dam 15 set to reopen May 23

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, announces the Mississippi River Visitor Center at Locks and Dam 15 on the Rock Island Arsenal will reopen to the public Sunday, May 23. Summer visiting hours through Labor Day weekend will be from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. seven days a week.
  • Corps campgrounds to reopen June 1 along the Mississippi River

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District announces campgrounds managed by the Mississippi River Project will reopen June 1 with the exception of Grant River in Potosi, Wisconsin. Online reservations through www.recreation.gov are required for all sites and same day reservations are now permitted.

  • Corps to Host Public Meeting to Discuss Habitat Rehabilitation and Enhancement near Keithsburg, Illinois

    ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, is hosting a public meeting and open house July 16 to discuss plans for ecosystem restoration at the Keithsburg Division of Port Louisa National Wildlife Refuge. The event is scheduled from 4-6 p.m. at the New Boston Community Center located at 502 Main St., New Boston, Illinois.
