Whitebreast Youth Camp

The Whitebreast Youth Camp, located east of the Whitebreast Campground and Beach on Inwood Drive, is available for reservation by non-profit youth organizations from April-October. There is no charge for use of the facility.

Campground Features:

  • Flag Pole
  • Picnic Tables
  • Water Hydrants (2)
  • Log benches that surround a large 5-foot diameter fire ring
  • Close proximity to the Stu Kuyper Nature Trail
  • Vault toilet building, 2 stalls
  • Gravel parking lot for approx. 20 vehicles

How to Reserve: 

Youth group organizations may contact the Lake Red Rock Project Office at 641-828-7522 or stop by the Visitor Center located on the south side of the dam at 1105 N. Hwy T-15 to inquire about reservations. Reservations may be made Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Please have the following information ready when making a reservation: 

  • Date(s) and time of intended camping reservation
  • Group name
  • Type of activity
  • Number of adults and youth attending
  • Name and phone number of responsible party

Whitebreast Youth Camp Rules

General Information

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers maintains and operates this area for the benefit of non-profit youth organizations. Any group meeting this qualification may reserve the area on a first-come, first-served basis at no charge.

Special interpretive programming may be arranged for groups by contacting the Lake Red Rock Project Office. The following information and rules are made for the safety of our visitors and the protection of our natural resources. Please report any violations to these rulers or problems you encounter so we may take appropriate action.

Youth Camp Area Rules 

  1. The access gate to the Youth Camp will be unlocked prior to a group's arrival.
  2. Camping is permitted only in the mowed and maintained area.
  3. Only dead wood on the ground can be collected for firewood. Do not destroy, deface, or otherwise injure any standing timber or other vegetation.
  4. Quiet hours will be maintained between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Visitors must leave the area by 11:00 p.m.
  5. Fires are permitted only in fire rings, fireplace grills or charcoal burners. Extinguish all fires prior to departing.
  6. All pets must be kept on a leash under six feet in length or otherwise physically restrained. Pet waste must be removed and disposed of properly.
  7. The possession of loaded firearms, bows and arrows, projectile firing devices, fireworks, and explosives of any kind are prohibited unless authorized by the Lake Red Rock Operations Manager.
  8. Toilets at the site must be cleaned and supplied by the group using the area and will be left in a clean condition upon departure. Youth Camp users are permitted to use the showers at Whitebreast Campground or Beach, if needed.
  9. Upon departing the area, all equipment and gear will be removed and the area cleaned of all litter. Litter and garbage will be removed from the area. 
  10. Unlicensed motorized vehicles are not authorized on the project. All ATVs and UTVs, regardless of licensing, are prohibited. All motor vehicles must remain on the roadway and/or designated parking lot except as specifically permitted by a Park Ranger.  Motorized vehicles may be driven into the Youth Camp area for loading and unloading purposes but should be returned to the parking lot after loading or unloading is complete. One small “non-sleeping” storage trailer is allowed to be kept in the Youth Camp area for supply storage and cooking preparation.
  11. No camping is allowed in the parking lot area.
  12. The number of adult campers (counselors) allowed will be restricted to those necessary to conduct normal programming and insure the safety of the youth group involved.
  13. Whitebreast Beach and Whitebreast Boat Ramp are day use areas available near the Youth Camp. Youth Camp users are exempt from paying day use fees. You may pick up a temporary day use pass from the Whitebreast Campground fee booth.
