    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, initiated a temporary modification to outflows today at Saylorville and Red Rock reservoirs to preserve flood storage capacity. This also allows the Corps to identify any unknown impacts as it evaluates the modification as a permanent change to the reservoirs’ water control plans.

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in Washington D.C. has implemented changes in the recreation day use fees charged for boat launches and swimming beaches managed by USACE. These fees were last changed in 2002. Changes have been made related to day use fees, USACE annual pass fees, America the Beautiful pass sales and America the Beautiful Senior and Access pass usage.

    The deadline for applications for the Wheelin' Sportsmen Turkey Hunt has been extended to April 1. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers along with the Red Rock Lake Association and the Mahaska Fan Club Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) will be hosting its first annual Lake Red Rock Wheelin’ Sportsmen Turkey Hunt on April 23rd 2016. The hunt will pair disabled individuals with volunteer guides from the NWTF in hopes of bagging a turkey and having a great time in the outdoors.

  • Panel of experts commends work at Red Rock Hydroelectric Project

    SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – An Independent Expert Peer Review Panel (IEPR) praised the work and diligence of the engineers, contractors, and Missouri River Energy Services (MRES) following an onsite review of the Red Rock Hydroelectric Project site June 20 – July 1. This was the IEPR’s second onsite review since construction of the project began. The first was in January.
  • Corps Promotes Emerald Ash Borer Awareness for Memorial Day Weekend

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, will be wrapping ash trees at recreation areas including Saylorville Lake, Lake Red Rock, Coralville Lake and the Mississippi River Project to bring awareness of the invasive Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) to visitors during the Memorial Day weekend. Each ash tree wrapped will show the detrimental effects the EAB could have on recreation areas in the Rock Island District if infestations are allowed to spread.
  • New Alcohol Restrictions at Lake Red Rock Beaches

    KNOXVILLE, Iowa - In an effort to maintain a family-friendly environment and to promote water safety, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has established restrictions for alcohol possession on Whitebreast Beach and North Overlook Beach at Lake Red Rock. Beginning May 23, 2015, possession of alcohol will not be allowed on the beaches and within the designated swim areas. Alcohol will be allowed at the picnic sites located adjacent to the beaches.
