  • Upper Mississippi River System Hydraulic Model Update Complete

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island, St. Paul and St. Louis Districts recently completed a seven-year effort to develop an updated, standardized hydraulic model for the Upper Mississippi River System, including the Illinois Waterway. The model can be used to evaluate and communicate the effects of floodplain modifications to provide better predictability and more consistent flood risk management for the Upper Mississippi River System.
  • FREE Boating Safety Classes to be Offered

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, will be offering two, free boating safety education classes, May 7 and 14 at the Mississippi River Project Office near Locks and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa. Each class runs from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and is open to anyone 12 years of age or older. Completion of only one of these classes is needed for certification.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, announces the opening of the auxiliary lock, located at Locks and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, May 28 for recreational boating traffic.
  • Public walkway at Locks and Dam 14 to close for construction

    Starting Dec. 1, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rock Island District will close the walkway located along the riverfront at Locks and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, for construction until Nov. 21, 2021. The extended closure is necessary for demolition of the existing structure and construction of a new, concrete walkway.
  • Corps to Conduct Emergency Drill at Locks and Dam 14

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District will conduct an emergency, man overboard drill at Locks and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, at approximately 10 a.m., Thursday, June 18. This drill is conducted as per normal, annual training guidelines.
  • John Hay Recreation Area in East Hannibal Temporarily Closed

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, has temporarily closed the John Hay Recreation Area in East Hannibal, Illinois, until further notice. The closure, which is anticipated to last until later this fall, will allow maintenance crews to transport rock and heavy equipment into the area for wing dam repairs in Pool 22 of the Mississippi River.
  • Corps campgrounds to reopen June 1 along the Mississippi River

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District announces campgrounds managed by the Mississippi River Project will reopen June 1 with the exception of Grant River in Potosi, Wisconsin. Online reservations through www.recreation.gov are required for all sites and same day reservations are now permitted.
  • Locks and Dam 14 Auxiliary Lock to Remain Closed

    ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – Due to ongoing construction and concerns related to the spread of COVID-19, the Rock Island District will not be opening the auxiliary lock at Locks and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, as scheduled on Memorial Day. The date of anticipated opening is unknown at this time.
  • Corps of Engineers begins Mississippi River habitat construction project

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, has started the first phase of the McGregor Lake Habitat Rehabilitation and Enhancement Project to restore habitat within Pool 10 of the Upper Mississippi River.
