• Coralville Lake Begins Drawdown

    Iowa City, Iowa – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District started lowering Coralville Reservoir on March 10 as part of its annual drawdown. The process of dropping the level of the reservoir by four feet in the spring is done in accordance with the operation plan to increase storage capacity in the reservoir. The target elevation of 679 mean sea level should be reached by March 16 or 17.
  • Corps to Host Open House to Discuss Steamboat Island Habitat Rehabilitation and Enhancement Project

    ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, is hosting a public open house March 26 to discuss plans for ecosystem restoration in Mississippi River Pool 14 near Steamboat Island. The public open house is scheduled from 4-6 p.m. at the Mississippi River Eco Tourism Center in Rock Creek Park at 3942 291st St. Camanche, Iowa.
  • Temporary Closure to Smith's Island Recreation Area

    ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Project will be temporarily closing Smith's Island Recreation Area at Lock and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, for environmental restoration work beginning on March 12.
  • FREE Boating Safety Classes

    Rock Island, IL-The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Project announces they will be offering multiple opportunities to attend a free boating safety education class. The classes will be held on the following dates: April 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th. Each class will run from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and only one 8 hour class is required to complete your certification.

Our annual Bald Eagle Watch, a part of the Eagles and Ivories Ragtime Weekend Festival held in Muscatine, Iowa, will take place Saturday, January 27, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Pearl City Station in Riverside Park, 100 Harbor Drive, Muscatine, Iowa.
  • Historic Clock Tower and Eagle Watch Tours

    Rock Island, IL - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Project announces that the Visitor Center at Locks and Dam #15 is inviting guests to participate in Historic Clock Tower and Eagle Watching Tours. Learn about the Historic Clock Tower building as you climb the stairs to the top. Waiting there is a spectacular view of the Mississippi River where you will have the opportunity to see Bald Eagles who visit our area during the cold winter months.
  • Lock and Dam #18 Public Access Closing

    Muscatine, IA - The Lock and Dam #18 public viewing and overlook area will be closed from December 1, 2017 through March 10, 2018. Construction activities during this time prevent public access. The Henderson Creek Boat Ramp located just south of Lock and Dam #18 will remain open for public access.
  • Coralville Lake's Sugar Bottom Mountain Bike Trail Closure

    IOWA CITY, Iowa – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announces that Coralville Lake’s Sugar Bottom Mountain Bike Trails will be closed from Dec. 2, 2017, through Jan. 10, 2018, to accommodate for the whitetail deer shotgun and muzzle loader hunting seasons. This is annual closure is needed to maintain a safe environment for everyone using Corps-managed lands during the hunting season. A map of designated public hunting areas around the lake can be found at www.Coralvillelake.org or picked up at the Administration Office. State rules and regulations apply for hunting in these areas.
  • Corps Extends Brandon Road Study Public Comment period: Hosts additional public meeting in New Orleans

    ROCK ISLAND, Illinois. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rock Island District is hosting an additional public meeting for the Great Lakes and Mississippi River Interbasin Study (GLMRIS) Brandon Road Draft Report on Dec. 5 from 1-4 p.m. at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers New Orleans District headquarters office.
