    Corps reservoirs prevent more than $53 million in damages during April flooding

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (May 16) – Following the heavy rains in April the Corps of Engineers began storing flood waters at its three reservoirs (Coralville, Red Rock and Saylorville) to reduce the amount of flooding downstream.

    MARSEILLES, Ill. — (May 13) The Unified Command announced Monday that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed construction of a temporary rock dike to aid in the repairs of the Marseilles dam.

    Iowa Man Sentenced to Jail for Stealing Walnut Trees from Federal Lands (Joint News Release with Fish and Wildlife Service)

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (May 14) - On May 9, 2013, Randall Todd Walker, a 50 year-old resident of Des Moines, Iowa, was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment for cutting and removing 32 black walnut trees from property under the control of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, announced U.S. Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt. U.S. District Judge John A. Jarvey also ordered Walker to serve three years of supervised release following incarceration. Additionally, Judge Jarvey ordered Walker to pay restitution in the amount of $56,225 and to pay a $100 special assessment for the Crime Victims Fund.

    MARSEILLES, Ill. (May 6) — In order to facilitate further repair work at Marseilles Dam, the Unified Command has announced plans for a 4-foot drawdown of the Marseilles navigation pool to be executed Friday.

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (May 6) – During the recent spring floods, April 17 through May 2, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, provided flood-fight supplies and on-the-ground technical assistance to areas along the Upper Mississippi and Illinois rivers and their tributaries.

    FREE Boat Safety Class – Last of the Season

    Rock Island, IL - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Project announces they will be offering the last free boating safety education class of the season on May 11for the Quad City area. The class will run from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and will be held at the Mississippi River Project Office at Locks and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa.

(May 4) – The Unified Command announced Friday that navigation will resume Saturday morning along a section of the Illinois River that has been closed to river traffic after seven barges broke free from a tow during heavy weather and came to rest against the Marseilles Dam, April 18.
