  • REMINDER: Fireworks prohibited on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property

    ROCK ISLAND, Illinois - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, reminds everyone that possession of explosives or explosive devices of any kind, including fireworks and other pyrotechnics, on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property is prohibited. This prohibition applies to all recreation areas at Saylorville Lake, Lake Red Rock and Coralville Lake as well as Corps of Engineers locations along the Illinois Waterway and Mississippi River.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Project announces that beginning on Friday, June 23rd, access to the Lock and Dam 16 visitor overlook will be closed due to construction activities. There will not be a lock and dam tour this Sunday. The visitor overlook will re-open on Monday, June 26th.     Rock Island, IL - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Project announces they will be offering four different opportunities to attend a free boating safety education class. The classes will be held on the following dates: April 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd. Each class will run from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

The event will be held on Saturday, October 15 from 3 - 5 p.m. Thomson Causeway is located on the west side of Thomson, Illinois, on Lewis Avenue off Main Street.

  • Lock and Dam 16 Visitor Overlook Access

    ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – Beginning Monday, Sept. 19, access to the Lock and Dam 16 visitor overlook will be restricted due to construction activities at Lock and Dam 16. The visitor overlook will remain closed during construction activities which are scheduled to conclude in mid-March 2017. Limited access to the visitor overlook will be available during special events such as the Eagles and Ivories Ragtime Weekend, January 27-29, 2017. Winter is a popular time at the visitor overlook due to the large concentrations of eagles that roost near the dam. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.
