Description
The report outlines the District’s plan to maintain the Mississippi River 9-foot navigation channel by dredging material from the channel and placing it on a small island near the channel.
Background
The placement site, or “Bathtub” is a temporary placement site. After 20 years the District would remove the dredged material in the Bathtub and relocate it to a permanent upland farm field/quarry site in Wisconsin. The report includes a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI), addressing the proposed action over a 40-year life (2 cycles of using the Bathtub).
Status
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District completed a Dredged Material Management Program Report and Environmental Assessment (EA) titled Upper Mississippi River Dredged Material Management Plan with integrated Environmental Assessment, Site Plan for the Hurricane Island Reach, Pool 11, Dubuque County, Iowa and Grant County, WI, Upper Mississippi River, River Miles 608-591, dated April 2018.
