Nominations Now Being Accepted for Coralville Lake Veterans Trail Dedication

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Coralville Lake, in partnership with Johnson County Veterans organizations, is now accepting nominations for the 2020 Memorial Day Veterans Trail dedication ceremony. Veterans selected from the list of nominations will be honored for their outstanding service during this year’s event and have their names added to a location along the trail.

Anyone can nominate a veteran who meets the following criteria:

  1. Nominee must be a resident of Johnson County, lived a large portion of their life in Johnson County, or is a member of a Johnson County Veterans organization.
  2. Must have been a member of the U.S. Armed Services and honorably discharged.
  3. Nominee must be alive.
  4. Nominee should have a Purple Heart or higher award.

The Veterans Trail, located at Coralville Lake, is a barrier free trail accessible to all. Various features along the trail are named for the 201 local veterans who have been honored on the trail since its dedication in 1989.
