Published June 22, 2015

Ottawa, Ill. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District announces the Illinois Waterway Visitor Center located at Starved Rock Lock and Dam in Ottawa, Illinois has reopened to visitors after high water had restricted access to the building last week.

The Illinois Waterway Visitor Center is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and gives visitors a chance to watch the operation of the lock and dam and learn about the Illinois Waterway's role in the national water transportation system. Displays in the center educate guests about early users of the Illinois River, the Illinois and Michigan Canal and how water transportation transformed the United States.
