THOMSON, Illinois - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, Mississippi River Project announces that starting November 23, access to the Lock and Dam 13 Visitor Overlook will be limited due to construction activities.

The Visitor Overlook will remain open during construction however parking will be limited and visitors will need to walk approximately 800 feet, around the construction area, to access the Overlook building. A small, temporary visitor parking lot across from the Lock and Dam 13 entrance will be available for visitor use or visitors may parallel park on the north side of Lock Road. Parking may become congested as winter is a popular time at the Lock and Dam 13 Visitor Overlook due to large concentrations of bald eagles roosting near the dam. Construction is expected to conclude sometime in mid-March 2016.

A map of the temporary parking area and designated pedestrian access to the Visitor Overlook can be found at www.missriver.org. For more information, contact the Thomson Rangers at 815-259-3628 or email mvrodmn13@usace.army.mil.
