  • Halloween Event Canceled at Shady Creek Recreation Area

    ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, has canceled the Trick-or-Treat Halloween event, scheduled for October 27, at the Shady Creek Recreation Area near Muscatine, Iowa. The event was canceled due to ongoing flooding along the Mississippi River and the need for extensive cleanup once river levels recede.

  • Corps to Increase Outflows at Coralville Lake

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, will temporarily increase the outflows at Coralville Lake in accordance with the water control plan. The increase, which is planned for later today, takes outflows from 10,000 to 12,000 cubic feet per second (cfs).

  • Recreation Closures Continue at Coralville Lake

    IOWA CITY, Iowa - All public day use boat ramps managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Coralville Lake remain closed at this time. This includes the Curtis Bridge, Mehaffey Bridge, Sandy Beach, Sugar Bottom, and West Overlook boat ramps. Lake MacBride Boat Ramp which is managed by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources also remains closed. West Overlook Recreation Area campsites 61-89 and Sugar Bottom Recreation Area campsites 156-181 and 192-214 as well as the campground boat ramp at Sugar Bottom also remain closed.
  • Corps of Engineers to Increase Coralville Lake Outflows

    IOWA CITY, Iowa – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, will temporarily increase the outflows at Coralville Lake to expedite evacuation of flood waters from the reservoir. The increase, which is planned for later today, takes outflows from the current seasonal maximum of 6,000 to 10,000 cubic feet per second (cfs).
  • Celebrate National Public Lands Day at Coralville Lake

    IOWA CITY, Iowa – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is celebrating National Public Lands Day at Coralville Lake, Saturday, September 29. Festivities will include a park cleanup and an outdoor concert. Volunteers of all ages are invited to help with the park cleanup from 1-4 p.m., trash bags and gloves will be provided. Following the cleanup, all registered volunteers will receive a voucher for free entry into a federal park or a single night of camping at Coralville Lake. Onsite registration will also be available the day of the event at the Coralville Lake Visitor Center between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • Saylorville Lake Water on the Rise

    JOHNSTON, Iowa - Just as the lake level reached normal conservation pool, recent rain has caused Saylorville Lake water levels to rise. Due to forecasted water elevations, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have closed the following areas: Cherry Glen Lower Boat Ramp, Oak Grove Beach Access, NW Jester Park Drive and Control Tower Road. These areas will be closed until lake levels subside and they can be cleaned up and brought back into service. Check current boat ramp availability by calling 515-509-2015, then 30#.
